Leila Aboulela was born in Cairo in 1964. She lived in Khartoum and graduated from the University of Khartoum in1985. She studied statistics at the LSE in London, and currently lives with her family in Aberdeen. Her work has appeared in Scottish Short Stories 1996 (HarperCollins) and Ahead of Its Time (Cape 1998).
